LG has wowed visitors to the CES 2012, showing off its newest flagship television to the world,  a stunning 55-inch OLED TV which makes anyone, who so much as sees an image of it, become obsessed with desire...

OLED TVs are usually confined to smaller screens, so it’s good news to see the tech finally get the big-screen treatment - it’s hard to deny that the resulting product is, put simply, stunning.

The 55" panel has been described as a 'a significant step forward in OLED technology ' by LG and it’s a step tech fans, gamers, home theatre fans - in fact anyone with a TV will be very pleased to see

The beauty with OLED technology, is that it allows TV's to be thinner and brighter than most TVS's on the market, LG have taken this to the next level, producing a 55" screen that is an incredible 4mm thick.

To give that stat some context, that [4mm] is thinner than any of LG's mobile phones, infact thinner than a lot of the mobiles available today - Just take a look at your iPhone right now and imagine that being a 55" screen. But thinner - and with a depth of colour maybe 20 times as rich, weighing only 7.5 kg - light for a television of its size.

As for price, nothing confirmed as yet, LG have said they intend to produce this TV for the mass market, so this is not just a screen for the Hollywood elite. That said OLED has usually been used for screens of ludicrous value - LG insist that the OLEDs will be 'affordable' - at the very least this means the very, very top end of the consumer market, in my humble opinion - they were not as loose with a release date, remaining resolutely tight lipped, watch this space...

If nothing else this will pave the way for the next generation of TV's that will leave your LCD or Plasma looking decidedly overweight and space hungry - this stunning tech will make you envy of many and guarantee movie night will be at your place just as many times as you like - but as exciting as an affordable 55" OLED TV may sound, whether that's affordable to the man on the street or A-list celebs, remains to be seen
